Each summer, pockets of water with low levels of dissolved oxygen develop in at the bottom of Lake Erie’s Central Basin. These pockets are sometimes referred to as the “dead zone.”

Dissolved oxygen (also called DO) is gaseous oxygen dissolved in water that you can’t see. The level of dissolved oxygen in Lake Erie can have several implications.

Cleveland Water has awarded over $6 million to six suburban service communities for 16 water main replacement projects. These awards are part of our Suburban Water Main Replacement Program and our $25 million annual investment in buried infrastructure.
