At Cleveland Water, we work hard to provide safe, quality drinking water at a fair and reasonable rate, but we know that’s not always enough, so we have partnered to offer programs that will help keep the water flowing, even when times are tough. Below is a guest post from the Cleveland Housing Network (CHN) with some of the many great programs they have available to help make life and all of its necessities more affordable for you and your family.
CHN believes in the power of affordable housing. That is why, we work to ensure housing stability through a variety of programs and support services for low-to moderate-income families living in Northeast Ohio. Collectively, these programs increase housing stability and give families the resources, information and support they need to become financially stable and secure. CHN programs include:
The Water Affordability Program is a 40% discount off of water and sewer charges for Cleveland Water and Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer customers. To qualify for the Water Affordability Program you must be the homeowner that occupies the home, you must meet the income guidelines (200% of the poverty guidelines), and you must not qualify for Cleveland Water's Homestead DIscount Program. Once approved for the program, the discount takes 1-2 billing cycles before showing on your bills.
CHN is known for its nationally-replicated LIHTC Lease Purchase (LP) program, typically helping 100-150 families become homeowners each year.
CHN also has a foreclosure prevention program that serves 1,200 at-risk homeowners. The program helps at-risk homeowners avoid foreclosure, address underlying causes and achieve long-term financial and housing stability.
CHN’s energy audits result in home insulation, energy-efficient appliances, energy-efficient lighting, high efficiency mechanical systems, major water repairs and other energy-related home repairs for low-income families. CHN develops extensive community partnerships to equip homes with energy efficient updates that keep monthly utility bills low.
CHN helps families to overcome emergencies and support them in their everyday lives through foreclosure prevention, EITC tax preparation and utility assistance programs.
CHN operates one of the region's highest-capacity Community Training Centers (CTC), enhances employment skills and prepares families to purchase, manage and build equity in their homes.
Counselors also assess clients, pull credit reports, address pressing issues, develop cash flow statements, map out existing and new budgets, and create customized Advancement Plans with the client to achieve short- and long-term goals.
We offer one-to-one counseling and group classes in home ownership, financial literacy and employment opportunities to empower low-income adults and youth with the skills and knowledge to reach new achievements that encourage their financial health and long term well-being.
